ABOUT DR. KESHVARI

A professional path shaped by learning, care, and continued growth.

Dr. Hengameh Keshvari’s background in Traditional Chinese Medicine spans more than a decade of education, training, clinical practice, and teaching.

Her professional path did not begin in healthcare. Dr. Keshvari earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and worked as a computer programmer and later as a program coordinator. During this stage of her career, she also earned her Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.

Her path eventually led her to Traditional Chinese Medicine, where she developed a professional practice centred on individualized assessment, acupuncture, and other TCM treatment approaches.

Today, her work combines clinical practice with TCM education. Alongside treating patients, Dr. Keshvari is an instructor of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Vancouver Career College, contributing her clinical knowledge and experience to the education of future TCM practitioners.

APPROACH TO CARE

Understanding the person behind the symptoms.

Traditional Chinese Medicine considers symptoms as part of a broader picture. Dr. Keshvari takes time to understand each patient’s concerns, health history, patterns of symptoms, and treatment goals before developing an individualized approach to care.

Treatment may evolve as the patient’s presentation changes. Rather than following the same treatment protocol for everyone with a similar complaint, acupuncture points and other TCM approaches are selected according to the individual assessment.

Listening is an important part of this process. Understanding how a health concern affects the person’s daily life, function, and well-being helps guide both the treatment and its progression over time.

CLINICAL INTEREST

Traditional Chinese Medicine and women’s health.

Women’s health is an area of particular clinical interest for Dr. Keshvari.

Her TCM practice may support patients seeking care for concerns including:

  • Dysmenorrhea and painful menstruation
  • Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
  • Menstrual irregularities
  • Amenorrhea
  • Fertility and reproductive health
  • Perimenopause
  • Menopause
  • Hot flashes and other menopause-related concerns

Care is individualized according to each patient’s presentation and may incorporate acupuncture and other Traditional Chinese Medicine approaches as appropriate.

PAIN & RECOVERY

Supporting movement, function, and recovery.

Dr. Keshvari also has extensive experience working with patients experiencing musculoskeletal pain and injury-related concerns.

Her clinical practice includes patients experiencing:

  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Back and low-back pain
  • Muscle tension and stiffness
  • Sciatica
  • Radiating pain
  • Joint and musculoskeletal concerns
  • Motor vehicle accident-related injuries
  • Persistent symptoms following injury

She has considerable experience providing acupuncture care to patients recovering from motor vehicle accidents, including patients receiving treatment through ICBC-related care.

TREATMENT METHODS

Traditional techniques selected for your individual needs.

Acupuncture

Fine sterile needles are placed at selected acupuncture points according to the individual’s Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment and treatment plan.

Electro-acupuncture

Gentle electrical stimulation may be applied between selected acupuncture needles when clinically appropriate.

Cupping

Cupping may be incorporated to address muscle tension and other concerns as part of an individualized TCM treatment.

Gua Sha

Gua sha may be used when appropriate as another component of Traditional Chinese Medicine care.

Bloodletting

When clinically appropriate, a small amount of blood may be released from selected points as part of a Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment approach.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine may be incorporated when appropriate, with herbal treatment selected according to the patient’s individual TCM presentation.

FACIAL CARE

Bringing Traditional Chinese Medicine to facial rejuvenation.

Dr. Keshvari has a particular interest in facial acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine approaches to facial care.

Facial acupuncture uses carefully selected facial and body acupuncture points according to the individual’s presentation and treatment goals. Consistent with TCM principles, treatment does not necessarily consider the face in isolation from the rest of the person.

Dr. Keshvari may also incorporate herbal facial masks prepared in-house as part of her TCM facial treatments, bringing together facial acupuncture and herbal traditions within an individualized approach to care.

CLINICAL PRACTICE & EDUCATION

Care informed by practice, teaching, and continued learning.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr. Keshvari teaches Traditional Chinese Medicine at Vancouver Career College.

Teaching provides another dimension to her professional practice, requiring continued engagement with TCM principles, clinical reasoning, acupuncture techniques, and the education of future practitioners.

Her earlier background in computer science and project management represents a different chapter of her professional life and contributes to the broad professional experience she brings to her current work in healthcare and education.

BETTER TOGETHER

Individualized TCM within a collaborative clinic.

Dr. Keshvari’s approach to care reflects the philosophy behind HES Collaborative Health: different healthcare disciplines can maintain their own professional perspectives while working within a connected environment.

Traditional Chinese Medicine can be provided independently or, when appropriate, form one part of a broader care plan alongside other services at HES.

The patient’s individual needs, preferences, and goals remain at the centre of that care.
